Leading and Learning about Race, Racism, and Equity

This series will be led by Dr. Lee Teitel from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and assisted in facilitation by Paul Freeman, Ed.D. Superintendent, Guilford Public Schools.

The cohort will meet for eight monthly 2-hour sessions and provide participating superintendents with an informal setting to learn about and discuss key ideas about race, racism, and equity with peers.  The approach will be both personal and professional, focusing on increasing the understanding and "racial literacy" of the participants as individuals and providing structured opportunities for them to apply those ideas as superintendents in their settings. In addition, participants will develop a deeper understanding of whiteness, exploring how ideas like white privilege, white fragility, and white silence affect them personally and in their professional leadership roles.

Superintendents planning initiatives or responding to racial inequities in their districts will get consultation support, ideas, and suggestions from their peers and the facilitator.
