The summer math passport has redefined what it means to engage in math learning over the summer. Since starting it in 2017, it has more than doubled our participation in summer math work, while at the same time inspired families and the community to build positive attitudes towards mathematics! This exciting model of summer learning is aligned to the shifts in mathematics standards and the shifts in instructional practice. It supports our district's mission and aligns with our core beliefs about active learning. We continue to engage students over the summer in the work of mathematicians by asking them to apply and discuss mathematics with their families at local businesses and locations within the community. Students and families enjoy the adventure of engaging in math around town and seeing the relevance of what they are learning within their own lives and communities.
