The CAPSS NextEd report concluded that Personalized Learning was a key to having all students graduate college and be career ready. The CAPSS Learner-Centered Newsletter newsletter is designed to provide education leaders with brief capsules of resources that will deepen their understanding of personalized learning and provide useful materials to advance the work in personalized learning.

Keep in mind that personalized learning is not a product or a reform. It is instead a set of principles that if observed will transform public education so that it meets the expectation that every child will be prepared for life, learning and work beyond school.

Personalized Learning or Student-Centered Learning

Personalized learning is a phrase that is often misused in an attempt to sell products. This was not the case when CAPSS started its work on transforming education. Special attention, then, should be paid to the definition of personalized learning. It aligns well with the definitions of student-centered learning that can be found in documents: Key Terms - Working Definitions from the Student-Centered Framework (download) and Putting Students at the Center: A Reference Guide (download).

This newsletter is designed to support staff, schools and policy makers interested in the process of implementing student-centered learning.
