At this point, we are hoping for in-person sessions at CAPSS. However, it seems very unlikely that in-person sessions will be possible in the first semester. As such, the fall sessions will be virtual/online and the group will discuss other options depending on circumstances.

This Institute is part of an ongoing partnership between CAPSS and the Department of Educational Leadership in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut.  
 
The intended audience for this community of practice is superintendents who have completed at least two years as a superintendent and have a deep interest in growing student achievement in their districts.
 
Leading school districts has become increasingly challenging in recent years. The health, safety, logistical and educational challenges of re-opening schools this fall will undoubtedly stretch well into the school year. There may never be a time more important for a networked community of practice discussing these adaptive educational leadership challenges than now.

Superintendents have expressed the need for support in meeting these challenges, support which can best be achieved with others who share similar challenges. A networked community of practice provides a learning environment that both honors the experiences and contexts of participants while also grounds their learning in applied research and best practices in district leadership.
 
Participants will be asked to commit to active participation in each session and to be willing to share their strategies for pursuing district goals and priorities. There will be a strong focus on the execution of each district’s improvement strategy through problems of practice, which will become the primary content of the Institute sessions.  Key themes and timely discussion topics will also be identified with the group for each session.
