CT ASCD - The Whole Child Initiative
2020 Whole Child Network - cover

January 2022

Connecticut ASCD, which we have the privilege to lead, is the affiliate of ASCD (formerly known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), a non-partisan, non-union, professional association for educators at all stages of their careers (from pre-service to retiree) and in all roles (paraprofessionals, elementary and secondary teachers, special educators, school counselors, school nurses, library/media specialists, school social workers, school psychologists, building- and district-level administrators, and professors of education.)

We and our fellow Connecticut ASCD members are uniquely positioned to witness the impacts, both intended and unintended, of existing policies, and to provide input about the likely impacts of any measures that may come up for consideration in legislation.  Three of our Board members have had the distinct pleasure of serving on the Legislative Task Force to Study the Comprehensive Needs of Children in the State, two as co-chairs.  This work has been a strong focus for us for the last year and will continue to guide us this year.  Therefore, we support looking through the lens of the Whole Child to ensure that all families and neighborhoods in Connecticut are healthy and safe, so that each and every child in the state can arrive at school ready to be engaged in, supported, and challenged through the learning process: we support the findings recommended in the Final Report of the Legislative Task Force to Study the  Comprehensive Needs of Children in the State.
