Advanced Leadership Development Institute for Superintendents:

Helping Superintendents Successfully Execute District Improvement Strategies

This Institute is part of an ongoing partnership between CAPSS and the Department of Educational Leadership in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut.

The intended audience for this community of practice is superintendents who have completed at least two years as a superintendent and have a deep interest in growing student achievement in their districts.

Leading school districts has become increasingly challenging in recent years. Amidst the accountability demands and significant fiscal challenges superintendents face, there is the pressing need to raise achievement for all learners so that every student leaves their K-12 education college and career ready. Superintendents have expressed the need for support in meeting these challenges, support which can best be achieved with others who share similar challenges. A networked community of practice provides a learning environment that both honors the experiences and contexts of participants while also grounds their learning in applied research and best practices in district leadership.

Participants will be asked to commit to active participation in each session and to be willing to share their strategies for pursuing district goals and priorities. There will be a strong focus on the execution of each district’s improvement strategy through problems of practice which will become the primary content of the Institute sessions.  Key themes and timely discussion topics will also be identified with the group for each session.

Membership in this community of practice will be established in the fall of 2018 and remain in place through the 2018-19 school year.
